Casey were awarded this design and build construction contract by R-Gen to provide a 26-unit development in Hulme, Manchester.
This impressive 'Award Winning' sustainable scheme, designed by MBLA Architects, was constructed to provide dwellings for rent, shared ownership and private sale and achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3.
The new build construction consisted of a residential unit comprising steel frame structure with underground car park.
This project featured as many energy savings and recycling systems as possible including, solar panels, high grade sound and heat insulation, energy saving white goods, central heating systems, low flow taps, dedicated low energy light fittings and a rainwater recycling installation which provided non drinking water usage such as toilet flushes and washing machine supplies. In excess of 95% of the timber used was from managed renewable sources.
Artistic ceramic tiles were used as part of the cladding designed by artist Susan Hill. Welsh Cedar and Trespa bespoke wall cladding was also incorporated in the design. Exterior and feature lighting was also installed.
Little Alex won an award at the MEN Property Awards for Sustainability Design and Construction, 2008.
