Project Overview

The major public realm works at Jubilee Square were carried out to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and were designed to enhance the city centre by the creation of a new Civic Square and public open space, and pedestrian links close to the commercial and retail quarter.

High quality porphyry and granite paving was the main feature of the works, located on a site previously used for car parking and Park and Ride facilities.  Our scope of works also extended to the soft landscaping which sensitively punctuated the public realm areas with lawns and common green areas, and the planting of ornamental trees to provide natural screening within the new square.

The whole of Jubilee Square was also lit by a variety of street and feature lighting to give a rich feel to the surroundings and provide a safe comfortable environment for visitors, residents and the surrounding commercial and retail community.

Local stakeholder management

The site was a busy pedestrian throughfare in the centre of Leicester with the commercial and retail quarters nearby. This therefore required extensive coordination with local stakeholders to phase the works, allowing continual access. Phasing plans and pedestrian management plans were agreed with the council and strong communication links were developed with all affected stakeholders leading to the safe delivery of the scheme.
