Growth Deal 3, Blackburn

The Growth Deal 3 Highway Improvement scheme includes the widening and upgrade of several roundabouts at major access points along Haslingden Road along with the construction of a new link road connecting Blackamoor Road with Roman Road. The project improved congestion on the Haslingden Road corridor to / from Royal Blackburn Hospital and M65 Junction 5, improved air quality at Blackamoor Junction (which is a designated Air Quality Management Area) and enables further development of employment opportunities.

The Mary Stevens Park restoration project was a scheme which was in the pipeline for numerous years with an extensive grant application process. It was essential to the Client that the project was delivered to the highest levels of quality, reflecting the importance of the scheme to the local community. Utilising our ISO 9001 accredited Quality Management System, we adopted a ‘zero defects’ policy, aligning our quality standards with the Client’s vision, delivering the scheme to their full satisfaction. The project success is now being realised as community involvement in the park has soared with visitors increasing by 42% over the past five years.

Poynton Village Improvement scheme was one of the first “shared space” schemes to be delivered in the UK. The project was designed to significantly change the road layout and traffic flows over the busy A6 road junction, and to provide pedestrians with an improved environment around the retail, residential and commercial areas in the Village Centre.

Lea Green Train Station

In February 2022, we commenced work at Lea Green Train Station to deliver a brand new multi-storey car park, ticket office, ground floor car park and associated public realm works, increasing park and ride capacity to around 450 vehicles.

Cliffe Castle Park

Following approval of a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Grant, the aim of the Cliffe Castle Park project was to regenerate the historic park with the design and construction of a new community hub by reconstructing the Glass House Café and creating a new animal sanctuary. The scheme incorporated botanical garden landscaping and the construction of new terrace areas around the café improving public access with DDA compliant ramps and steps. The parks boundary walls were also repaired and refurbished utilising local materials.

A Victorian city park once regarded as the ‘green lungs’ of the city of Stoke, Grade II* listed in recognition of its historical importance, benefited from a multi-million pound Heritage Lottery Funded makeover. Hanley Park was regenerated through an exciting, comprehensive restoration scheme. The project enabled the park to re-establish itself as a successful, high quality visitor attraction of regional importance, providing high quality visitor facilities such as the Main Pavilion and Boathouse.

Cathedral Gardens

The Cathedral Gardens scheme was part of the Connecting Leicester Vision to reveal and connect the city’s unique historic buildings, streets and spaces, creating pedestrian friendly streets, new cycle routes, a new public square and green spaces. The development of Cathedral Gardens and improvements to the adjoining public realm of Peacock Lane provides an attractive open space framing Leicester Cathedral and linking it with the Guildhall and St Martins House.

Located in a prestige location amid a wide variety of high profile residential, commercial retail and leisure properties, this highly prestigious public realm scheme was designed to substantially enhance the former Manchester Metropolitan University site by creating a vibrant garden neighbourhood with secret streets, independent food and drink, and a green space for the entire city.

Worsley Delph

Worsley Delph is a site of international importance in terms of its role in the world’s first Industrial Revolution. The mines at the Delph are the principal reason why the Bridgewater Canal was constructed in 1761 to take coal from the mines into Manchester and beyond.

Swinton Greenway

The project, delivered on behalf of Salford City Council, involved construction of a new 7km off-road path which runs from Monton to Swinton. The route has been significantly upgraded to make it more attractive, safer and accessible for all, whether it’s for cyclists, commuters, dog walkers or wheelchair users.

New Bailey Gateway

New Bailey Street is a section of the A34 which is a strategic, transport interchange route used by a large number of buses, located in the centre of Salford. The primary objective of the scheme was to improve the adjacent highway to provide enhanced infrastructure supporting the New Bailey Development. Other factors driving the project were providing improved facilities for buses and getting infrastructure in place for the anticipated growth in rail passengers from the adjacent Salford Central Station.

The Glebe

Delivered within the busy, tourist area of Bowness-on-Windermere, the objective of The Glebe highway improvement scheme was to develop traffic calming measures to make one of Lake District’s most visited areas more accessible by pedestrians, bus, bike or car whilst installing flood prevention measures along the lakeside.

Neville Estate, Leeds

Working together with Leeds City Engineers and Leeds City Housing departments, we undertook the demolition and reconstruction of walls, driveways and fencing to a high specification, completed works within given timeframe and cost parameters. All works were undertaken collaboratively and fully embracing the ethos of the NEC contract.

City Connect 2

Our client’s aspirations for the City Connect 2 project was to improve the cycle lane facilities around the city to provide a Cycle Super-Highway fully integrated with the existing highway system. The intent was to improve signal-controlled junctions for vehicular and cycle traffic as well as improve the pedestrian corridors by realigning junctions to provide safer spaces for all road and footpath users.

Smirthwaite, Normanton

Working alongside WDH and Groundworks Architects we were appointed to undertake major up grading of an estate containing 15 blocks of low rise maisonettes and bungalows over a challenging 18-month delivery programme. Significant phasing issues were overcome to allow residents safe access and egress including single entry properties.

Ewood Gyratory

The Ewood Gyratory project involved the major reconstruction of a main trunk road intersection and the remodelling of the strategic highway network in central Blackburn. Two new access roads and a signalised gyratory roundabout were constructed alongside new pedestrian crossing facilities, all associated drainage and infrastructure including carriageway and footway resurfacing, kerbing and road markings.

Fishergate Gateway

Located in Preston’s City Centre, within a high footfall area, this scheme was designed to upgrade the commercial and retail areas, converting an original two-lane through route into a single lane and creating an expanded pedestrian area providing a shared space facility.

St. Mary’s & Barker Street

Casey were engaged by First Choice Homes Oldham to undertake works tp the St. Mary’s and Barker Street area. We liaised with local residents groups and neighbourhood officers to plan, design and construct communal open spaces, car parking, community planting and gardens along with upgraded signage across the Coldhurst area of Oldham. Ongoing community liaison meetings were held to continually develop designs to meet residents expectations.

Lichfield Park

The scheme incorporated restoration works to both Beacon Park and Minister Pool for Lichfield District Council. The £3.5m project required hard and soft landscaping, monument and balustrade stonework restoration and the construction of three new buildings. A Sports Pavilion for the Bowling Club, a 1400 sq ft Cafeteria and an extension to a sports facility to provide offices, changing rooms, and shower block were built in the park following demolition of existing buildings. A Children's themed adventure play ground was also upgraded and extended with new equipment and layouts.

Erneley Close, Passivhaus

Casey completed two maisonette blocks at Erneley Close, Longsight, which has given a remarkable facelift to the area, whilst providing equally dramatic energy savings for residents and making it a destination of choice. The blocks have been refurbished to the Passivhaus EnerPhit standard. The term Passivhaus refers to an advanced low energy construction standard for buildings that provides excellent health and comfort conditions being both cool in summer and warm in winter with minimal heating or cooling requirements.

Hebden Bridge Train Station

The project involved the construction of a new car park at Hebden Bridge station to improve the availability of parking at the popular station by increasing the number of spaces. An additional 46 spaces brought the total to 127 spaces. The completed scheme included the installation of lighting columns, CCTV (requiring railway telecoms approval) and white lining of the vehicle parking bays.

Grey Mare Lane

Casey were appointed by One Manchester to retrofit 150 homes, in a project which will serve as a pilot for a wider programme of decarbonising 12,000 properties in the area. Initially, Casey undertook a pilot scheme of three properties in Gorton, East Manchester, and one of the successes of this was the team’s agility in the programme design.

When Morecambe Bay Academy’s boiler and plant room suffered a major failure, its equipment was found submerged under 1 metre of floodwater. Cannon Hussy and Arthur Millwood are tower block which stand side by side in Manchester City Centre. Salix Homes directly awarded us the refurbishment of which included: Cannon Hussey We were instructed to replace the existing external cladding panels with a superior rated product for fire compliance. Internally, we are installing a new sprinkler system to cover all internal flat areas.

Casey were awarded the design and build of 48 new build properties comprising 31 houses and 17 flats. The one and two-bedroom cottage flats, along with two, three and four-bedroom houses, the scheme was built in Laurel Road in Fairfield. All the homes were offered for affordable rent.

Casey constructed of 36 new affordable homes which was built on land formerly used as part of a horticultural nursery adjacent to the Grade II listed Tanhouse Farmhouse in the parish of Sefton. Of the 36 dwellings five are two-bedroom single-storey bungalows with the remaining 31 properties being two and three-bedroom two-storey semi-detached and terraced houses.

Having worked in a collaborative partnership with Trafford Housing Trust over many years on new build and refurbishment projects, Casey negotiated the new build extension, refurbishment and DDA adaptation repair works to a residential block of flats in Sale, Greater Manchester. The project involved conversion of 28no apartments into 23no apartments – 8no rent-to-buy and 15no rented properties.

Casey worked with First Choice Homes Oldham to make their two towers more energy efficient. As part of the investment at both sites, new exterior wall insulation has been fitted along with a new roofing system and replacement double glazed windows, boosting the thermal efficiency of the buildings to help customers to save on energy bills.

On behalf of Sheffield City Council our team completed the Sheffield General Cemetery restoration project which was part of the £3.8 million programme of repair and conservation works funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Parks for People Programme. The overall project aim was to protect the future of Sheffield General Cemetery Heritage Park as a heritage rich, biodiverse, public park close to the city centre to ensure that it can be enjoyed and cared for by current and future generations. Our scope of works included restoration work to the historic catacombs, boundary and internal walls, memorials, paths, signage, lighting, handrails and planting.
